Fetal Dental Deformity to Blame for Potential Recall of Chiclets Tooth Enhancing Gum
A recall may be in the future for Cadbury Adams Tooth Enhancing Gum. The FDA has forced the company to halt production of the candy until they can further investigate claims that the gum is causing an unusual and potentially deadly dental deformity in developing fetuses.
Selena Blakerson, FDA spokesperson said in a press conference on Friday that, “a recall may not be required, but Cadbury Adams will be required to include a warning for expectant mothers on packaging.”
Barbara Sanferson of the group Our Bodies Our Babies, otherwise known as OBOB explained that many expectant mothers have dental issues during pregnancy. The developing fetus takes calcium from the mother and the toll is tooth and bone loss.
“At OBOB we inform expectant mothers, through newsletters and sample packages, of ways they can keep themselves healthy during pregnancy so that the baby can get what they need to grow without draining the mother like some sort of parasite. Tooth Enhancing Gum was one of the products we included in our sample packages. Thankfully there were only two women out of 2,300 that experienced any ill effects from the gum.”
The FDA so far has advised that all expectant mothers refrain from using the gum and those who have chewed the gum should be on the look out for these warning signs:
GNAWING PAINS IN THE ABDOMEN
VOMITING BLOOD
FEELINGS OF BEING CHEWED APART FROM THE INSIDE OUT
BRUISING OF THE ABDOMEN OR LOWER BACK
SUDDEN RIPPING OF THE SKIN
DEEP OPEN WOUNDS THAT REVEAL THE FETUS
Anyone experiencing any of these symptoms should dial 911 or get to the emergency room immediately.
You know you’re a hypochondriac when you have all the symptoms especially FEELINGS OF BEING CHEWED APART FROM THE INSIDE OUT and you’re a guy. Tori Spelling, I hardly recognize ye.
that was entirely unnecessary.
Bet you liked that movie ‘Alien’ when it first came out, eh?
