Over 40 and Balding–You’re Finished

This is “Ask the Doctor” where readers ask questions of the world renounced general practitioner Dr. Charles V. Fullerton.

Dear Dr.:  I am over 40 and developing a serious bald spot.  I also gained a lot of weight in my late 20s that I kept on all these years.  I tried Rogaine, Propecia, Minoxidil.   I am considering scalp graft or hair transplants.  What do you think.  — Thin and Heavy

Dear Thin and Heavy:  You tried your best.  Now it’s time to face facts.  It’s over.  Even with hair you’re probably not good looking.  You go to bed early now.  Probably the only people who see you are your family or at work.  Even if you are still single, you are finished as far as dating young women is concerned.

So don’t be  a narcissist. You can’t stop the thinning. You are bald. Just trim it short and call it a day.  Wear a hat when it’s sunny out.

Controlling your weight isn’t a bad idea though.  Diet and exercise.  There are no magic solutions.  Nothings easy pal.  You’re over 40.  You should know this by now.
